I hold your petals closely

Between Paris and Kuwait, the spiritual silk routes blossom under Alymamah's brushes.

Luxury, exclusivity, intimacy: the collection contains ten unique pieces, designed by Alymamah Rashed and crafted by the finest artisans in the heart of La Makanerie's Italian workshop, in an exceptional 100% cruelty-free silk. For this exceptional collaboration with the Koweiti visual artist, the two female-led structures Hunna Art and La Makanerie have imagined an exclusive wearable piece of art, where culture meets sustainable fashion.

Luxury or ethics? Fashion or culture? Desert flowers or sea shores? We want it all.

“At La Makanerie, we work in a spirit of slowness and scarcity, the opposite of fast fashion. Fast fashion is in no way comparable to the work we do with our partner atelier, which is family-run, small-scale, and prides itself on concentrating on the details. For this very special collection, we chose to work with a different kind of silk, in the image of Alymamah Rashed's artwork. Luminous and strong, yet lively and organic.”

I hold your petals closely is the story of a special silk, where silk cocoons are treated in the most natural way possible. Left to their authentic life cycle, silkworms hatch naturally, breaking the thread of their natural envelope. To weave the silk that gives birth to La Makanerie's scarves, the threads must be joined and knotted, giving the fabric an exceptional consistency. The silk is textured, like our intimate stories, where the knots are not erased but delicately exposed.

Alymamah Rashed

Alymamah Rashed, a Kuwaiti visual artist, delves into the themes of identity and the natural environment by weaving her personal narrative. A painter at heart, Alymamah received her MFA from Parsons School of Design in New York and her BFA from the School of Visual Arts. Her connection to Kuwait and New York converge in a world she creates on her canvas, a surreal and personal depiction of herself.

Her work navigates her female perspective in connection to regional folklore, the mundane objects of her daily life, archaeological research, and Arab Mythology. The strength of her paintings comes from her ability to critically tackle difficult subjects in the region with intellect and poise. Not overtly political, her work nevertheless addresses issues of Islamophobia, gender equality, racism, reclaiming one’s spirituality and femininity, and challenging social norms.

Her work has been showcased in publications such as Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, Vogue Arabia, Architectural Digest, Farfetch, The Visionary Project, and in ‘7 Days: Expanded Edition’ by AC Books.
